Paula Deen Book Hits Top of the Charts
If Paula Deen said the N-word ten years ago and can get this much publicity and a book to #1 on Amazon’s Best Seller’s List, then there’s a lot of people in the South who need to start writing a memoir or a book on how to catch fish with their arms right now.
Let me start with this: You asked an old white woman from the South if she’s ever harbored negative racial stereotypes and expected a different answer than a yes? At least she was truthful, which is more than we got from Jodi Arias!
You’ve surely seen the coverage by now. Paula Deen was asked during a deposition on May 17th if she’s ever been racist or used racial stereotypes. Deen admitted to using the N-word, and the entire world came unglued. Deen has lost multiple sponsorships and has been dropped from her long-standing show on the Food Network, and is being phased out of Wal-Mart, Target, Home Depot, and others.
Deen has attempted a run at apologizing, but her time with Matt Lauer yesterday and her stint at apology videos on YouTube has only proven to us that she doesn’t know how to cry properly. However, her attempts are garnering her record sales for her new book, which puts a definite silver lining to this story.
What’s the real scandal here? The scandal lies in our take on the issue. People have come out screaming for Deen’s head on one of her own cooking sheets for something she did a decade ago, but no one gives it a second glance when a black/African-American/African/person of moderately tan skin says the same exact thing 217 times in every rap song ever made.
We are in an era of reverse discrimination. Being white makes you the most politically incorrect individual in the room, and the wrath of the world will come down on you if you forget it, even if it was just that one time ten years ago. Political correctness is taking its toll, and is slowly but surely removing freedom of speech as an individual’s right. Spewing hate, while awful, is still a right, but only if your skin color doesn’t resemble the color of paper in any way, shape, or form.
