The interesting thing about society is, as a community of individuals acting upon our own direction and acting within the social contract we refer to as ‘the law’, we sometimes find ourselves outraged at the acts of others.  Those acts are sometimes referred to as ‘scandals’.
The measure of a scandal, however, is directly implicated to the circumstances and familiarity with the subject matter.  Did I lose you yet?  Let me explain…
Richard Nixon lied about an executed break-in and burglary of the Democratic National Committee headquarters at the Watergate office complex in Washington, D.C. in 1972.  The White House and even the president himself attempted to cover up its involvement of the illegal act.  The public revelation and subsequent investigations resulted in a scandal.  Likewise did it enrage a nation seeking justification of the violations.  The Senate hearings began a legal marathon of resignations, subpoenas, trials, convictions, and incarceration of over forty people.
President Richard Nixon eventually resigned over the scandal.
The Republican party to this day finds itself embattled in a war of words over Watergate.
The GOP, however, is not singular in the stigma of scandal.  The Democratic party has also suffered the fallout of out-of-control leaders or leadership going above and beyond the bounds of social stigma.
During the period of 1995 to 1997, a young, 22-year old intern for then-President Bill Clinton engaged in consensual sexual acts with the president on multiple occasions.  Monica Lewinsky became a household name and the scandal gave fuel to a political fire that resulted in Bill Clinton being only the second American president in history to be impeached.  Although not being removed from office, his legacy remains forever tarnished.
The political arena is not singular in its ownership of scandalous acts.  Sports fans recently learned of the arrest warrant for obstruction of justice issued for Aaron Hernandez, tight-end from the New England Patriots.  I’m sure the NFL is holding high-level meetings today to discuss the repercussions of a member of their ranks being implicated in a high-profile murder case.  Scandalous.
Neither is the entertainment industry without glamorous and sometimes-humorous participants.  One does not need to look far beyond Charlie Sheen or the Kardashians for evidence of scandal.  Tiger blood, indeed!
It is the mission statement of this website to empower the readers to bear witness to the missteps of society whenever and wherever possible.
