Snowden to be Extradited for Espionage?
White House scandals are too numerous to count lately. Most recently, American Edward Snowden thrust himself into the limelight as a whistleblower on the NSA’s intelligence-gathering programs. His status is unclear at this point. Is he a patriot defending the Constitution? Or is he a spy/traitor to America?
Arguments like these add fuel to the political fires of Hell — or as we like to call it here at Scandal of the Day — Congress. The White House is formally charging Snowden under the Espionage Act, claiming theft and communication of classified intelligence and providing said information to an unauthorized person. Additionally, the White House is requesting Hong Kong extradite Snowden, which can only make this story sexier.
The big question is, if Snowden is returned to the States, what kind of a circus of a trial will that make? The Left will be screaming for his head on a platter, as Snowden makes Obama look like a power-hungry despot and the Right may try to erect a statue in his honor and give him his new superhero name, Righteous Defender of the Constitution.
And what happens if Hong Kong refuses to extradite? President Obama’s overseas policies lately have been sketchy at best and this may prove to erode his falling popularity even further.
Perhaps the president will deem it prudent to send in another Seal Team Six to retrieve the Evil Snowman? Hey, it worked with Bin-Laden, right?
Oh, yeah, Evil Snowman. That’s the supervillain name the Left will give him. As in, “His chances would be as good as snowball in hell…”
More than likely, however, will be the prez taking his family on yet another paid vacation. The taxpayers of America are used to the waste of money by now. The biggest decision for Obama will be whether he orders sweet and sour chicken or a huge helping of crow?
What difference does it make?
In a couple of hours, he’ll be hungry for more.
